Chapter Seven · The long version
I want to tell my story so I can help others tell theirs
I am Katie Brown. I coach outdoor functional fitness and community adventures in Lacrosse, WI, and most of the people I work with have never trained before.
I have always been very active, whether it be endurance running events or outdoor adventures like hiking or paddleboarding. In years past I worked at camps in Pennsylvania, Wisconsin and Australia, doing everything from helping with camp operations to leading adventure activities and courses, outdoor education classes and team-building.
The last few years I worked in a hospital setting. That kind of healthcare is genuinely interesting to me, but the work clarified what my real passions are: total wellness, outdoor adventure, fitness and helping people thrive. I wanted to put those together with my life mission — to tell my story so I can help others tell theirs — and that has brought a new dream.
So this is the chapter I am writing now: helping people strive for total wellness, bringing them into communal, life-giving adventure that builds their capacity for the real world, and holding space where they can grow in courage to share their stories. I believe most people can read their own story back more clearly once they are moving and outside and not doing it alone — that is why coaching, for me, is as much listening as programming.
My coaching style is centered on meeting people exactly where they are at and walking alongside them through their journey toward total wellness. When you train with me, we focus on functional movement that builds your real-world capacity to confidently take on active lifestyles and outdoor adventures and build towards total wellness. I prioritize building a safe, supportive space where movement is life-giving and communal. I want to use my life mission of telling my story to help others tell theirs, creating an environment where a tight-knit community walks together, hears one another's backgrounds, and comfortably shares their stories as they thrive.Katie Brown
What I refuse to do
I refuse to be out to make a buck — there are cost-effective, affordable options, because I want anyone working towards total wellness to be able to join. I refuse to limit people to a physical locked-down space; I want to help people go places, experience new things and actually pursue an active lifestyle. And I refuse to let group sessions be only a workout time. I want a safe space where people build true community, walk with one another and become part of one another's stories.
My goal is to meet you exactly where you are at — whether that is the absolute basics — and build you up to confidently take on outdoor group training and real fitness adventures.
